In the time before the virus I used to wander through rock shops and shows.  Every rock shop has these drink coasters cut from small slabs of picture sandstone.  It was only recently that I learned these small pieces have big brothers.  There is a vast deposit of picture sandstone near Kanab Utah. The most famous quarry there specializes in big brother slabs with dimensions measured in feet not inches!   

On my first trip to Tucson I bought the slab seen in the table here.  I've sealed it so that it, and the surrounding Lyons sandsone are water proof.   The top sits on 4 steel three rod hairpin legs. It was fun to make
