Rhyolite

Rhyolite

I found this piece of rhyolite at a rock store in Estes Park Colorado.  Its from Utah and was formed when volcanic dust was burried, infused with water carying various color minerals, and then reexposed. (Geology lesson for today).

I found the base in a Boulder Colorado thirft shop.  I made the rim from thin steel and put them all together this summer in my garage.   The fun part was finding a design to best show off both the base and the rocks.

I'm always on the lookout for 'pretty' rocks and bases.  If you know of any please let me know.
